Advocacy

Nothing can be more fulfilling than exploring the underwater world and discovering it’s unending splendor but attached to this I believe is a responsibility in protecting the marine environment. We can do our share in protecting and sustaining the most productive ecosystems on Earth.  This is our gift to the future generation…

 My Share

 Beach/Dive Clean-ups

Participating in clean ups encouraged and in coordination with PADI (www.padi.org) and Project Aware Foundation (www.projectaware.org) like during International Clean up Day and initiate clean-ups on occasions that call for such activity during dive or snorkeling trips.

Coral Watch

Just received my DIY kit on coral watch from University of Brisbane (www.coralwatch.org) , I’m making my dives or snorkeling count by volunteering to monitor local coral reefs.

Raising Awareness

Encouraging fellow divers and general public in marine environment protection and donating to Project Aware.

Support to Coastal Marine Protection and Preservation Projects

As volunteer diver of Natural Resource Managment (NRM) project of LGU Linamon, Lanao Norte funded by World Bank through the Department of Agriculture.  The LGU is envisioning this existing MPA as eco-tourism spot, coral transplantation is the highlight of the program.  Another projects coming up is in the municipality of Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental and Plaridel, Misamis Occidental.

Recently supporting also (in anyway I can) the Sohoton Park in Socorro, Surigao Norte. The fishermen peoples’ organization is handling the operation of the park.  Nothing is more rewarding then helping people to capacitate themselves, managing their livelihood and at the same time doing protection & preservation of the environment which is the main source of their living.  SAVE Sohoton is taking me as an honorary member.

  • I write about marine life and teach marine science. These are great links for students to become more aware of advocacy programs. Thank you!
