Coastal Management

Coastal Management

The Philippines being composed of 7,107 islands scattered all over the archipelago basically surrounded by waters, it’s not strange then that  54% of municipalities, 68% of cities and 82% of provinces are coastal.  The municipal waters is almost as large as the entire land area of the country.  With this, the significance of Coastal Management can not be over emphasized, in fact it is one of the mandates of all Local Government Units as embodied in RA 7160, RA 8550 and RA 8450.

Coastal Resource management is a basic service of local government and there is huge motivation among them to manage their resources once they recognize the seriousness of the problem and what they stand to lose if they do not act.  It is an inherent function of LGUs – the primary mandate for managing municipal waters out to distance of 15 km from the shoreline has been devolved and more recently defined in Fisheries Act of 1998.

These basic services can not be delivered, however without cooperation between LGUs and without the support of coastal communities and partners from the national government, NGOs, academe, private and other sectors.  We need to mobilize efforts from all walks of life to attain the goals of preserving and protecting our waters and its all forms of life. The marine environment is vital in maintaining our world’s ecosystems, if we do not all act now, we may lose them forever...

                A commitment to the challenge of our world!

Pledge for the Environment

This act is a tribute to our past, an inspiration today and a gift for the generation to come…

To preserve nature and the ecological balance between man and his God-given environment;

To involve in supporting forests renewal, recycling, efficient waste disposal, and the dvelopment and use only of biodegradable products;

To conserve water, energy, and all natural resources;

To protect the environment against indiscriminate cutting of trees, dynamite fishing, cyanide mining, smoke-belching noise, air and water pollution, animal testing, and using products made without environemntal care;

To Act to help save Mother Earth, something can still be done

Because we have been careless and in many ways irresponsible of the environment entrusted to us by the Creator, we need to pray for forgiveness and protection.

Oratio Imperata

A Prayer for deliverance from calamities:

“Almighty Father, we raise our hearts to You in gratitude for the wonders of creation of which we are part, for Your providence, in sustaining us in our needs, and for Your wisdome that guides the course of the universe.

We acknowledge our sins against You and the rest of creation.

We have not been good stewards of Nature.

We have confused Your command to subdue the Earth.

The environment is made to suffer our wrongdoing, and now we reap the harvest pf our abuse and indifference.

Global warming is upon us. Typhoons, floods, volcanis eruptions and other natural calamities occur in increasing number and intensity.

We turn to You, our loving Father, and beg forgiveness for our sins.

We ask that we, our loved ones and our hard eraned possessions be spared from the threat of calamities, natural and man-made.

We beseech You to inspire us all to grow into responsible stewards of Your creation, and generous neighbors to those in need.

Amen.”
